Recognising that a Community Centre must be a building where a strong sense of participation prevails, the structure is designed in the form of 2 blocks: one the Administrative block, the other, the Hall, embracing the Basketball Court which forms the Forecourt/Plaza to the building.
A transparent “folding screen” serves as both a link and a viewing gallery, whilst the Basketball court also serves as an extension of the Hall for spillover activities. The two blocks are juxtaposed in opposing symmetry with the use of a pitched roof to add a local, friendly character. The gable ends of these blocks are given design reliefs and punctuation to complement the forms.
