The Cathay
(in collaboration with Kenzo Tange Associates)
Year: 2006
Region: SINGAPORE
The new Cathay Building meets its intent as the new landmark for the junction of Orchard Road and Bras Basah Road. The facade radiates a festive movie-like atmosphere and its transparency serves to capture the attention of the passer-by especially at night when the complex becomes a tower of light.
Providing 20,000m2 of retail space including 8 cinema halls and a premier hall of 600 seats at a cost of S$80m. A modern glass ‘skin’ as an urban design tool and a back drop to the conservation portion of the original building.
