National University Hospital (NUH) is set on a relatively steep site on a north-south axis stepped into the hillside, commanding good panoramic views to the north and east, and comprises broad building blocks constructed in the period from 1960’s to the present decade;
For Phase I remodeling of NUH, the project involved the introduction of a naturally lit atrium and public concourse. Having to carry out the remodeling works within an existing live hospital posed a lot of challenges as its existing operations are ongoing and there are inpatients and wards for which all their internal procedures are to be allowed for 24/7, 365 days a year.
